I heard her crying
Heard a creak of a doorknob
Crying from a room next door
Sounds of muffled sobs
At times whimpering no let me go
More tears
Her crying
Next door
I saw her walking
Dressed in her school uniform
A picture of a sad broken beauty
Her eyes clear like cleaned windows
She tried smiling
Though not with her eyes
So accustomed to crying
This girl next door
She should be playful
This girl next door
She acts old and doleful
Like there is nothing to live for
She eyes her peers acting all grown up
She seems troubled why their game is so charmed
So young yet loosing her pup
Such games for her no longer childlike her heart pumps alarmed
Who made her soulful?
This girl next door
As her whimpering reaches my corridor
My room, my core
Oh no, awake from this dream
This girl
Who is she, was she, is she?
I let out a scream
Me!

I am Kenya
I am Kenya
A nation of tribes and colours
A mixture of culture and people
I’m not just Kikuyu, Luo, Kamba, Masai, Luyha, Meru
to name but a few
I’m all of these, these are all of me
Sons and daughters of this nation- I Be
I am Kenya
Whence came from the separation?
Who said one tribe one nation?
I’m all; I encompass all these differences for they are part of me
This ground, these borders they speak of me
Kenya
The mounts, the hills, the streams, the seas
The plains, the farms, the beasts, the trees
The song, the dance, the people, their bearing, their stance
All Kenya
Different, yet singularly me
Yet some try to divide me, how can this be?
For all these variations speak of me, are part of me, are all of me
Why does brother rise against brother, sister against sister?
Are not these but Kenyan Fathers and Mothers
Protectors and Nurturers?
Who set neighbour against neighbour?
On this hallow ground once stood shoulder to shoulder
And now my legacy threatens to smolder
The fabric of the Kenyan flag is tearing, across the nation the ground is wailing
Its people are riling and quailing
Our land - blood like rivers prevailing
Can Kenyans rise above this plight?
Gather under the Kenyan flag and anthem sing bright
To redeem the truth of what is good and right
Stand together with liberty and our differences unite
And be One People One Nation!
Kenya!!
(Inspired from a theme if Kenya’s spirit could speak)

If this were up to me
If this were up to me
I would spread the fire that burns of hope inside
Would tell the news Yes far and wide
That tells me that Kenya will be free
To enjoy a stable economy
A just society
A legacy relished from those of old age to infancy
Protected for generations
Each one with equitable portions
That audacity of hope
That resides inside of me
Tells me Kenya is a place of beauty
Where abundant radiant resources
FOR ALL flows freely
If this were up to me
Brother would safely stand with brother
in sanctity
Neighbour need not cower
None would fear
Elated Liberty
This firelight within me
Conspires to be set free
To ignite the surroundings
Yes with joyful resounding
And burn what darkness there may be
of hostility
Hope stands with audacity
At the thought that some day will
Bring calm and instill
Unity
If this were up to me
I have a fire of hope burning within me
That tells me Kenya will someday be free
To stand with neighbour in unity and live forever in liberty
This flame inside
Desiring to confide
Says indeed THIS can be
I plead with my fellow countrymen and women
To stand
And say of ourselves
Yes it is up to us, up to you, up to ME!

Rise among you one
Rise among you one
That one called David
A good Shepard of the flock
Watchful of the sheep, his brother’s interests keep
Selfish interests not take stock
Rise among you one
That one like David
A warrior and champion of the lost, fighting evil bands whatever the cost
Giving ear to the voiceless
That friend to the friendless
Rise among you one
That one as David
Who worships God in fear and humility?
Bows head obedient to his ways and submissively
Protects justice founded in laws
Rise among you one
That one for David
Led in truth and in spirit, who walks with integrity
Serving not to be served but serves with authenticity
Governs Gods cause
Rise among you one
A David
A worshiper and friend, whose heart pleases God
In step with his purpose and destiny
Whose legacy will never end
Rise among you one
(Based on 1st Samuel 16)

The Stalker
THE STALKER
There is a subtle disturbance running amok the airways
Planning to stalk their prey, unlikely to see their laid out lairs
Together they team, goading each other, making a din
Control a hand span away, feeling the win
Destroy the lot in the way
Small minds, being on top, finding at last control
Beat up any reformer and innocently stonewall
Preening titles, fanning their pompous walk,
Control a hand span away, shoving rough talk
Screeching destroy the lot in the way
Temporal is the stupefying place
Where insidious upstarts plan to disgrace
Right judgment for a corner room place
To plod underfoot the worthy displace
Duly, this stalker of the prey
Will fall in it tracks along the way
Blackened and blotted out never to sway
What is honorable
For good will inevitably win the day

Cry of Kenya
Cry of Kenya
What went wrong, who will take the blame and somehow heal our country’s shame
Alasiri with your old ideals, rendering overt power no longer appeals…
Alfajiri what visions can you employ, can these be realized for this country to enjoy
Can both you sisters lead the way and shape for us all a better day
Both ideals past and future, has the present to deal with,
Question is, what do you picture?
How you decide, may inflame or quell the tide
Is it one Kenya or one big divide?
Love or Power what motivates you?
Remember to this -you must answer and history will indeed judge you…
May the dusk leave the land peacefully and grace us with fond memory
May dawn bring forth new liberty and show us true prosperity
May none be looked upon with disdain for unwarranted transfer of pain for gain
Love or Power what motivates you?
Remember to this -you must answer and history will indeed judge you…

Damned dream
This is the dream of the damned
People selling out
Promises falling short
Predator demons on the scout
Evils pact intact, democracies broken contract
The moment the underworld got its clout
What went wrong is what this dream is about

DDMan beast
Double-dealing man beast
Walking among mortals
Wearing a human face disguise
Yet delved into devils portals
Ruse befitting and trust ill getting
Guileless adorn
Beast mingling in mans form
With evil you most fraternize
What are the means to exorcize?
Your lies
Walking among mortals
Wearing a human face disguise
Yet delved into devils portals
Ruse befitting and trust ill getting
Guileless adorn
Beast mingling in mans form
With evil you most fraternize
What are the means to exorcize?
Your lies
Unspoken
UNSPOKEN
Who will speak the unspoken?
Who will mention the unheard?
Who will expose what is hidden
Who will shed light on the shadows?
Who will make know what is not plain
We hide behind wide smiles
We keep a lid on our pain
We showcase an illusion
We specialize in fantasy
We create a world we never even live in
No seen pain, no real worry, no guilt.... no shame
But the truth has a way of speaking
It seeps in through what is not said
Through symptoms
Through lack
Until finally our facade shows its crack
What we are is helpless, hopeless and forlorn
We are but weak form
Running and racing back and forth in life
Faking remedies in a life of no courtesy
A life that takes and takes
As we swipe at momentary pleasures
But we nurse emptiness
Though in company we smile our very vest
But when we are alone, when we are truly alone
We shed away our pretences
That's when the night has moved on, and our smiles have worn off
We expose the truth to the one audience we cant hide from
We open ourselves to the misery no one can quite comprehend
For behind bright eyes, lies a tortured heart
Hounded by what’s hidden
Hidden for its ungainly form
But who will hear us
Who can share this pain?
Who is comfortable with truth?
That we need not hide it away
Who will speak with and for us?
Or must we remain
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh
THE UNSPOKEN
(Muzzling the truth hurts)

Hear or Fear
Did you hear me or do you fear me
Does the thought of my pain
Cause you not to come near me
Does the burning in my eye connect?
With guilt coz you planned to tear me
Is my landless form not enough for you to try bear me?
Yes perhaps you ought to fear me
Not for my actions but for the seed of prayer in me
Does the thought of my pain
Cause you not to come near me
Does the burning in my eye connect?
With guilt coz you planned to tear me
Is my landless form not enough for you to try bear me?
Yes perhaps you ought to fear me
Not for my actions but for the seed of prayer in me
